Rosa Blea

Rosa Blea

This is my grandma, Rosa (aka Rose) Oclires Blea (married Escobar). She graduated from Moffat County High School on May 25th, 1965. Rose had 4 children, James Gustus, Christina Gustus, Julia Gustus (married Tweedy), and my mother Kimberly Estrada (married Edwards). My grandmother grew up in Colorado, and later moved to Pennsylvania for a short time. Later she moved to Bakersfield, CA, (around 1970) where she had a lot of family and where she stayed. She has 5 grandchildren (John and Jennifer from Julia, Jeffery from Christina, and Samantha and Matthew from Kimberly), and now a growing number of great grandchildren. She was funny and silly, and always laughing. Rose spent a lot of time with me as I (Samantha) grew up, and was a second mother to me. Rose never took things too seriously, and she was really patient and a giving person. She helped even when she didn't have a lot to give. Her favorite color was green, and she couldn't spit, it would just fall down her chin when she tried haha. And she was always joking with people. Her favorite animal was swans, and she collected swan sculptures all the time... She played the drums at school. She was a huge fan of Rod Stewart! She was a great artist, and also made beautiful flower arrangements and decorations. She was 5' 3" with dark brown hair and honey brown eyes. She was pretty popular at school and always had the boys chasing after her! :) Haha She was bilingual, speaking English and Spanish. She was the third youngest of many children (maybe 15 children?). She brought a very large family together, and often hosted meals for her very large family during Thanksgiving and Christmas. They came from very far and wide to come together again at her home. I remember always helping her peel potatoes haha, and I loved helping her make a mountain of fresh pumpkin pies for our family every year. Rose was born October 13, 1946. And she went to be with God July 18, 2003. She was 56 years old. She suffered complications from type 1 diabetes, leading to kidney and liver failure... ultimately taking her too soon. She was a bright light in my little world, and I'll always remember her fondly. Now she is a little bright star shining in the heavens, where I'll always have her. Thank you for always taking care of everyone, and of me.... I'll always love you and miss you. You were the best grandma I could have ever wanted. ~ Samantha Marie Edwards
