Joyce Williams



Joyce Williams, a former Craig and Hayden resident, died Jan. 23, 2009, at The Regional Medical Center in Salt Lake City after complications to correct a rare malady.

Joyce was born March 1, 1947, in Hayden, the daughter of Joseph and Neata (Stevens) Christensen. Joyce was raised and attended school in Craig.

She married Billy W. Williams on Feb. 21, 1954, in Craig, and they became the parents of three daughters, Valorie, Billie Jo and Joanne.

They made their home in Hayden until moving to Kentucky in 1986.

After her husband's untimely death in a coal mine accident, Joyce moved in 1996 to Vernal, Utah, and resided there until her death.

Joyce was active in her church and her hobbies included embroidery, quilting, and collecting.

She is survived by her daughters Valorie (Dusty) Hanson, of Georgetown, Ky., and Billie Jo Baker, of Vernal, Utah; grandchildren Scott, Travis, Samantha, Logan, Sierra, Bryce, Billy, Zachary, Spencer and Braiden, and her sister, Doris (Bob) Griffin, of Vernal, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Phyllis Trouth, brothers, Rex, Narven, Ray and Phillip Christensen, husband, Billy, and daughter, Joanne.

A funeral was Jan. 28, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Craig with Gordon Kitchen conducting.

The family prayer was given by Bob Griffin.

The opening prayer was given by Jane Dunckley, the eulogy by Mary Ann Burgoyne, the speaker was Sylvia Walker and benediction was by Trudy De Veries.

Musical numbers were "O My Father," "I am a Child of God" and "God Be with You Till We Meet Again."

Kim Schnackenberg was the accompanist.

Pallbearers were Scott Andrew Baker, Billy Warren Baker, Travis Hanson, Logan Hanson, Dusty Hanson, Bob Williams and Dutch Williams.

Honorary Pallbearers were Samantha Jo Baker, Sierra Dawn Baker, Spencer Hanson, Braiden Matthew Williams, Bryce Hanson and Zachary Hanson.

Interment followed in the Hayden Cemetery with the Dedication of the Grave by Bob Griffin.
