David Homer Dean was born May 18, 1947 to Homer T. Dean and Jean Bates Dean in Cody, Wyoming. He passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the age of 62. Dave was raised in the oil field camps in Toe-Creek and Hamilton Colorado, schooled in a 2 room country School through the 4th grade. The family moved to Craig, Colorado at the start of the 5th grade. In high school, he played football and wrestling. He was also the Homecoming King and the Prom King. After school, he worked at the standard station in Craig. While working at the Standard Station, he won the Outstanding Station Attendant Award for Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Dave eventually moved to Southern California where he met his first wife "Tootie" (Hilda Hasel) on a blind date. They went bowling, played miniature golf and pool, and she beat him at all of them. He asked her out again to prove he wasn't a klutz. Dave fell very much in love with her and they married a year later. She had 2 young children; Mark and Vicki whom he adopted and loved very much. In 1970, they moved back to Craig, Colorado where he taught his children about wildlife, fishing and camping. Dave did many odd jobs as steady work was hard to find. He drove trucks in the oil fields, was a carpenter and worked for a cement company. Dave went to work for the city of Craig as a Building Inspector in 1974. That same year, his son AJ was born. Dave belonged to many organizations. He was the Fire Chief at the Volunteer Fire Department, head of the ambulance, on the Sheriff's Posse and was in the Police Reserve. He started the 4th of July Fireworks Committee, organized the first Mud Run and the spook house at the fire department and Visalia Elks Lodge #1298. Dave is listed in the 1982 Book of Outstanding Young Men of America. In 1986 Dave, Tootie and AJ moved to California and he went to work for Mammoth Lakes as a Building Inspector. He left there and went to work as a Plans Checker for the County of Tulare, eventually becoming the Chief Building Official for Tulare County. His wife Tootie had cancer and passed away in February 1990. A couple of years later, he met Suzanne (Sue), his current wife and they have enjoyed 18 wonderful years together. Her two sons Jason and Brandon also became very close to Dave. Dave is survived by his wife Suzanne, brothers: Ted and wife Elaine, Steve and his wife Suzi, Bob and his wife Kendra, Sister; Inez Hughes, Jeanie (Dennis) Temple. His children Mark Dean, AJ (Rico) Dean, Vicki (John) Haddan, Jason Ferguson and Brandon (Kim) Ferguson. David Dean-An Obvious Gentleman!I hate reading his name in our "Memorial" section!  David was a powerhouse of a man.  He shall be missed at our reunion.  He somehow managed to be friends with everyone and that was a great deal of his charm.  I notice two wives mentioned in his obituary.  No doubt-they were both fortunate women!  Our numbers will continue to dwindle but his passing will probably affect us all!  God bless and may he rest in peace.

Dave befriended me when I was the new guy from California in Junior High.  He was a true friend during and after high school.  He once offered me the money for joining the union to be able to work in the oil fields when I had fallen on bad times.  I hate that I lost contact with him many years ago, and that he is now gone.  Dave could make you laugh a real belly laugh and bring tears to your eyes with his thoughtfulness and compassion.  Bye Dave

I'll miss David a lot. He always had a smile and/or a good joke when we were in school. He was a really good guy.
